Let's be honest here, the Soviet Union's first concern was not it's people's health.
Your best bet it to look for a GOST threaded filter. There is some overlap in compatibility between the filter thread on the GP-5 and NATO filters, but they are non intended to be used together.
Sounds like you should be ok. Asbestos becomes dangerous if it is disturbed or damaged, as this releases particles and fibres which then carcinogenic.
Recommend that you give any articles that can withstand washing a clean and wipe anything else down with a damp/moistened cloth (being careful not to disturb any dust).
In terms of your filter, i'd say best to double bag it in a impermiable bag (plastic).
Asbestos is carcinogenic (cancer causing), these filters contain asbestos.
Should be safe, could even be fashionable!
The masks are made of Latex, you may be experiencing a reaction to that or there may be some talcum powder left in the mask that may be irritating
The risk isn't worth it, if you're intending to use it as a prop.
Best option is to find a compatible modern filter and then paint it to the colour of your choice
Possible, it's around the time that asbestos was commonplace in filters.
The GP-5's filter are known to contain asbestos.
I believe the GP-7's filters however, are safer to use
I'm affraid I can't find anything on the internet with regards to the fitting gauge. You may be able to contact Avon for the information, or get a medium sized mask (Size 2) and try a negative pressure fit test (cover the inlet valves and breathe in, if the mask crushes up against your face and then doesn't re-inflate until you take your hands away from the inlets - you have a good seal and the mask is fitting correctly.)
Best suggestion I can offer comes from the manual - located here
Page 8 onwards provides fitting instructions
Do you have any photos or links to where you bought the filter(s) from?
No problems with the post -
The filter being the age it is, will almost definately contain asbestos, which is dangerous to human life if it becomes damaged or breaks down (the fibres are the dangerous part).
Speak to your local authorities about asbestos disposal if you are wishing to dispose of the filter.
Please be careful with regards to storage of these filters.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a specific year that they stopped using asbestos, more of a decade/time period
Appreciate the stiff upper lip Mike, but please don't feed the trolls.
I've banned the user, this is the second time.
As for your question, i'm afraid I don't know any details about it. My colleague, Subarroweveyln may be able to clue you in
Please keep this discussion civil.
Insulting me isn't going to help you here. If you continue to disrupt this discussion, I will lock the thread.
Gentlemen and/or Ladies,

Quote: Also just to add to that I'm led to believe the owner of the website may have passed away which is why it was down for some time. Unsure now who is maintaining it.
In memoriam JJ 2014 - sounds like the original person behind it has unfortunately passed on. May they rest in peace.
