The 35M was a pioneering gas mask design in Hungary, as it was the first helmet style and the first full rubber mask designed locally.
Overview[]
The mask is made of rubber. The eyepieces are made of cellon and hold in place by crimped on metal assemblies. The 40mm intake valve which is the same time the exhale as well is made of aluminium alloy. The only strap is connected to the valve house and goes around the nape to fix the mask on the head, however this strap is missing on most of the photos.

Bag and kit[]
Not much is known about this mask or its bag and the kit, but it is possible that the bag is similar to the 34M or 36M bag and would be issued with anti-fog soap.
History and external information[]
As previously mentioned not much known about this mask. It is probable from its very basic construction that it was designed to be a cheap mask for civilians but because of rubber was a more valuable material that time the Népgázálarc turned out to be much more suitable for the public and it phased out the 35M. It is also possible that there were manufacturing issues because a different design was used on all the other Hungarian masks that time. The mask itself costed 5 Pengő in 1936 (the Népgázálarc was 13 in a full kit). The mask is probably the copy of the Degea Luftschutzhaube as it is very similar, however many differences can be spotted as well. It was surely made by Mercur Műszaki és Vegyipari Rt. because the civilian gas masks were only called on the xxM designation by the manufacturer, Légoltalmi Liga (pre-Civil Defence organisation) always refered to them as a description (34M was Munkagázálarc - work gas mask; Népgázálarc - People's gas mask; T.35 and T.33 were Gumi munkagázálarc - rubber work gas mask).
