In modern times respirators, half-face masks, and gas masks have undergone significant advancements from the past, including the integration of features such as ultrasonic welding, visors, voice diaphragms, and drinking tubes. Although majority of the global world generally agreed to avoid the use of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, and some even nuclear reactors, the use of gas masks continues to be taught and remains crucial in situations such as riots, military operations, and emergencies. It is possible that some Cold War-era masks are still used today, either due to the absence of new design proposals or the existence of preserved masks in surplus storage, which offer a cheaper alternative.
