Gas Mask and Respirator Wiki

The Lidma was an earlier gasmask made by Chema, later heavily influencing the LPS.

Mask overview[]

The faceblank is similar to the FM-3 made by their main competitor, Fatra. The mask is often also referred to as Chema C, however one can see both in promotional materials. It featured a six-point strap system, very reminiscent of the one of the LPS, except for the buckles, which were moulded into the facepiece. The mask also has a carry strap, which is connected to the lowest harness strap. The eyepieces were made out of layered glass (2 layers). The valve assembly was made out of black bakelite, with the 42mm thread on the top, intake valve in the filter, and exhale valve on the bottom, with the whole valve assembly also closely reminiscing the one of the FM-3, pointing to the fact that Fatra might've taken some inspiration from this mask. The mask has the name and logo of Chema moulded into the left cheek.

Variants and kits[]

  • Chema Lidová Maska (1936) – Regular version with smooth rubber, and a tin carrier similar to the German ones.
  • Chema LidMa C/ Lidová C (1937) – later version, features textured surface on both cheeks, and the eyepiece rims are grey, instead of black, which could be seen on the older models. It was sold in tins similar to the LPS.
