The EP 68 - Entgiftungspäckchen (Detoxification Pack) was the standard issue decontamination kit of the National People's Army (Nationale Volksarmee - NVA) from the late 60s until the disbanding of the NVA in 1990. It replaced the earlier EP 62 which is very similar. The EP 68 was carried in the external pocket of the SChM-41M, SChMS, M-10M & PBF gas mask bags.

How to use the Detoxification Pack EP 68
1. Dealing with the surprise use of Chemical Warfare Agents (ChKS)
Detoxify the exposed Skin first, then the Clothing, Personal Weapon and Equipment!
—Dab off large ChKS particles with firmly applied swabs and with a rotating motion
—Wipe off finely distributed ChKS particles (including suspected ones) vigorously with swabs
—Then apply the detoxifying ointment thinly and without gaps to the affected areas using unused swabs.
2. Directions for preventive protection against Chemical Warfare Agents
Apply a thin layer of detoxifying ointment to the skin of the forearms, neck and chest using the palms of your hands or other tools:
—if ChKS is expected to be deployed by the enemy
—before actions in poisoned areas/sections
Note: Wipe off the detoxifying ointment with swabs or other tools only after you have completed the combat task and then wash it off.
*ChKS = Chemical Warfare Agents (Chemischen Kampfstoffen - ChKS)
