This primitive Dutch gas mask consisted of a linen bag containing a number of compresses which could cover the nose and mouth. The compresses were soaked in Na₂S₂O_3. Glasses were attached to the top of the bag to protect the eyes. The whole was held on the face by 4 side straps and a frontal one. Breathing through the mask was considered exhausting. The mask started being issued in June 1915, and was replaced by the Model B in early 1916.
