The Swiss GM53 was designed for military use in the early 1950s. Later it was used by the Civil Defence as well.

Overview[]

It is made of butyl rubber which gives a great protection. The mask has two circular eye pieces that can be removed or replaced without the need for tools. Optical inserts were available. The inhale walve is on the bottom and has an oral nasal cup. The exhale is on the front of the facepiece. It has a 5 point head harnes made of canvas straps.

Filter[]

Two lightweight filter were issued including the Mundfilter L41/55 (Mundfilter basically means mouth filter refering that it is lightweight) and later Mundfilter L58. The early masks were issued with the filter of the GM33 filter and hose.

Kit[]

The kit contained the mask and a filter and sometimes a hose as well. The bag is made canvas and has a simplified GM53 stamped on wit the number "53" and a serial number.
