Overview[]
The HM37 (Halk Maskesi 37) was the first standardised mask for the civilians in Turkey, Since the Republic was created in 1923, they did not issue any civillian gas masks until the HM 37. Turkey licensed the mask and manufactured it in the "Gaz maskesi ve Koruyucu Kıyafet Fabrikası" (Gas mask and Protective Gear Factory) in Mamak, Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The HM37 was made by the "Türkiye Kızılay Derneği" (Turkish Red Crescent) in the Factory founded by the same organisation. The Factory was built in the 1930s (exact date is unclear as of now), they produced the HM37 from 1937 to 1943. In 1943 the factory was given to the Türkiye Milli Savunma Bakanlığı (Turkish Ministry of Defense) it is unknown what they did with the factory between 1943-1967. in 1967 the factory was given to the MKE (Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi) (Machine and Chemical Industries). MKE expanded the factory, they have 6 engineers, 50 officers and over 500 technicians. the factory now produces the new turkish designed masks such as MKE NEFES.
