Gas Mask and Respirator Wiki

The Model 36 was a mask designed and produced by Václav Horák / Titán of Prague. The main reason this mask came to be was the Horák company being banned from ever receiving government contracts after trying to make the ministry of defence pay 450% of the agreed price in addition to asking unneeded materials for their previous contract on the Vz.23 mask. This led to the company not using the Leyland license, unlike many other companies.

Overview[]

The facepiece is made out of brown-ish rubber, covered with purple stockinette. The lenses are made from celluloid, held in by screw-on eyepiece rims. The mask sports two indipendent valve assemblies: the inlet assembly at the bottom houses the inlet valve (an unusual feature in Czech masks of the time, which usually had inlet valves in their filters); the exhale valve assembly was placed frontally and could allow a VPU to be installed. The mask utilizes a six-point head harness made out of brown elastic fabric, with all 6 points connecting to a leather headpad in the back. The two bottommost harness points are detachable, with D rings on the harness, and hooks on the faceblank. The carry strap is sewn into the hook attachment spot.

Kit[]

The mask came with a light grey tin, which featured the company's logo on its lid. The mask also came with a filter, which could be one of the many produced by the Horák company. As mentioned before, there was a possibility of a VPU being purchased either along with the mask, or separately, however not very much is known about it, and, as of writing, none has been found (to the author's knowledge).
