Gas Mask and Respirator Wiki

This article is about the M-2 gas mask made in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. For the Cold War Era mask, see M-2 (Yugoslavia).

During the late 1930s the Royal Yugoslavian Army was undergoing modernisation. The army bought new planes, helmets and of course new gas masks. The new masks were intended to replace the older M-23 masks. In the early 40's this gas mask was a copy of Vz.35 . Later domestic production at the BATA factory started. The newly produced masks were designated as M-2 Nebojša (Nebojša meaning fearless in the Serbo-Croatian language).

Mask overview[]

The mask is very similar in construction to the British Mk. V GSR (General Service Respirator). Differing only in the addition of a 42mm thread. The masks were issued with a long hose and a big filter. There are known to be 3 types of filters used with this mask. 2 of them are a domestic design, while the other one is an identical copy of the Vz.35 filter. The masks that were produced were licenses of Czech masks.
