The M-39 was the first gas mask in Norway intended mainly for civilians.

Mask overview

Unlike other masks made by Viking it is not made of rubberised canvas but only of rubber. The valve housing is the same as on the M-34 and the strap connections are very similar what can be seen on the Czechoslovak FM-3 masks.

It come with either a cardboard box or with metal canisters.

External information

Norway was a bit lagging behing most European countries in terms of civilian gas mask production. While most European countries made their first cheap civilian gas mask in the mid 30s Norway olny started the production just after the begginig of the Second World War however it remained in production after the German occupation.
