The M.58 filter was the Italian standard filter from 1958 to the 1990s.
Overview[]
The M.58 filter was a brown/green-painted box containing a layer of particulate filtering at the bottom and a layer of activated charcoal and other blocking substances at the top. Before being opened, the thread is closed with a plastic 40 mm lid while the bottom intake is covered by a rubber seal, both with a small sheet of paper to signal that the filter was never opened. After the filter has been opened for the first time, it could be closed again using the 40 mm lid and the rubber seal, which is attached to the filter by a string.
The filter was sold in a small box in which the filter fit perfectly.
Variants[]
The M.58 filter was produced for more than 25 years by different producers and many factors changed over the years, such as overall size, paint colour, paint shine and the kind of box it was sold in.
Markings[]
- On the top of the filter, the company name and logo can be found, beyond the name of the filter.
- On the bottom, there is the date of production and a 4-letters code that describes the content of the filter.
