Hey there Evelyn! I figured I should ask you about something that's been troubling me with my brand new Gas Mask. It's a M65 Drager, however it's accompanied by a [ MS-4-172 / 92 P2 F ] Filter. It's definitely GOST, It's probably adjustable to the M65, however. Do you think it'd be safe to use?
I don't know for sure, but my personal preference is to avoid the use of bloc-manufactured GOST filters. Enough of the filters are known to contain asbestos, and they weren't exactly known for their safety record.

Bullshit! The filters were heavily tested with hot agents and performed excellent. Those who designed them cared about their soldiers much more than your mask manufacturers cared just for profit
So I recently bought a east german issue MM-1 gas mask from ebay. The mask is nothing special, except that it's from the first batch of MM-1's made in moskow, but that's not the point, the point is the filter. I know that the filter normaly issued with this kit is the E0-16 filter, but mine came with one that looked like a E0-14 filter. I originaly though it was a E0-14 filter and the seller just mixed it up, but the labeling on the filter suggests that it ins't a E0-14 filter. It doesn't say E0-14 anywhere but instead it says " бсс-М0-4у " on it. For the date it says " III-62-14 " which I think means it was made in march of 1962. Under that it also says " Г 0230" . It also has 2 cyrillic letters on the bottom which I can identify due to wear. Finally there is a stamp on the bottom of the front side of the filter that says " 830 " and a sharpy mark on the cap that says " 15 " . I have no clue if this is just misslabeled or something else, I am also wondering why it was included in an east german kit, since the seller doesn't have any other masks and filters for sale and this smells like it has been sitting in his basement since the fall of the berlin wall ( the seller shipps from a village close to berlin ). Help would be appreciated and if you also have no clue what this is then I am sorry for wasting your time.
I just bought gp5 and used it foe about 2 hours with its filter on, the code on it is 26-392-2-83 so is there any risk of my getting lung cancer or asbestosis? or should I go and get my lung checked? Currently Im in Vietnam and there are no places to buy a different filter like FP5 or such.
Asbestosis is a condition sustained as a result of the mechanical effect of significant and sustained exposure to asbestos, so that at least can be ruled out. With respect to cancer, any exposure increases the risk, but it's still rather unlikely
I think that stuff like "polish army" is a bit too generic and proper original names should be used if known (with a translation of course), as putting the actual name of the users only on English and American masks is too anglocentric
This is an English-language wiki, so with respect to language it's necessarily anglocentric. Unless the name of something in a foreign language is pertinent, or genuinely useful for disambiguation, it seems rather out of scope
Even though this is an English-language wiki, the idea behind it is to make it international. If there is not a specific universal translation in English for one term (i.e. "Germany" is universal, "Polish army" is not), there should be both the proper name and the translation. At least, if the proper name is provided, it shouldn't be deleted.
"'Germany'" is not universal at all. In German it's "Deutschland", in French "Allemagne", in Polish it's "Niemcy", In Japanese 「ドイツ」("doitsu").
Despite this, we do not refer to the name of a country in the language of the country in question because it's not relevant, and the same is true here.
If an unambiguous translation is possible, then it's moot. A Polish person who speaks English reading the article should understand "Polish armed forces" just as well as they would the Polish equivalent.
In addition, the use of languages is likely to force infobox entries onto two lines where this may prove unnecessary, where the height of infoboxes already presents formatting issues
This wiki is principally an English language wiki, so it's my view that other languages should only be invoked for the benefit of the English text (i.e. where it's relevant and where a translation is provided)
dont know that i should clean my old gas mask i post in GP-5 article or not, it look so old, that i doesnt know cleaning it in anti-bacteria liquid soup is ok or not
