This primitive Dutch gas mask consisted of a linen bag containing a number of compresses which could cover the nose and mouth. The compresses were soaked in Na2S2O3. Glasses were attached to the top of the bag to protect the eyes. The whole was held on the face by 4 side straps and a frontal one. Breathing through the mask was considered exhausting. The mask started being issued in June 1915, and was replaced by the Model B in early 1916.
