The MF-11 (not to be confused with MF-11D), also known as FMJ05 is one of China's current standard-issue protective mask. MF-11 made by Tangshan Puda is also known as MJ-4003, although the first version of the mask was known as Type 87. Currently used by the Chinese People's Liberation Army to suppliment the large need of gas masks amongst their normal troops, as well as for use amongst civilians working in areas such as industry, agriculture, scientific research, public safety and transportation safety. Oftenly, the variant without the drinking tube is called MF-11B, although this is not always the case. It is available in 3 sizes; 1 (Small), 2 (Medium), and 3 (Large).

Introduced in 1987, the mask itself is made out of a black rubber. The filter that comes with the mask (such as the Z-B-R2-V filter) provides protection against CBRN threats. The mask features rounded triangular eye lenses. The mask uses a 6-point head harness. The full of this mask comes in a green plastic box that the mask and filter fit in. It also comes with the carrying bag with a Type 87 woodland camouflage fabric. Other accessories include a waterproof bag, instructions, and a training cap/resistor cap for the filter input.

Generally, there are 20 boxes of FMJ05 per wooden box with an optional ruler. Masks are selected according to the range of the measurement results.

Versions of the mask

There are 4 versions of the mask.

Type 87 and its full set

The first version of the MF-11 was called Type 87 since it was introduced in the year 1987, although the name FMJ05 is also used to refer this version as well. This would be the first mask in the usage of the PLA that has a STANAG 4155 compliant 40mm port.

The size number is on the lower right side of the mask, and "1" is the mold number. There is no model mark on the mouth and nose mask of type 87.

Type 87 has the same design as FMJ05

The appearance specifications are consistent with FMJ05 version

The sticker indicates that it was produced in 2000, and the factory weight is 249g (with cap and stopper)

How to store the mask and filter is stored. The mask holder can effectively prevent the mask from being compressed and deformed.

The resistor and carrying bag of the Type 87 gas mask are exactly the same as with FMJ05 version.

This is the second and latest version of the MF-11. The term "Type 87" was dropped for this version.

On the lower left side of the filter interface, the grey and white color is the inhalation valve. The one-way design can prevent exhaled gas from passing through the filter.

Orinasal cup and it's internal inlet valve

There is the size number on the lower right side of the mask, and the small "0" on the lower right side is the mold number.

There is also a size number in the upper left corner of the orinasal cup, and the small "1" in the lower right corner is the mold number.

The filter that came with it has an outer aluminium build.

The sticker indicates that the filter was produced in 2010 and the factory mass is 266g (with cap and plug)

The resistor/dummy load

It has no filtering properties

The carrying bag is designed in camouflage colour, attached with Velcro on the top and sides, and knotted at the waist.

Difference between Type 87 & FMJ05 from Shanxi Xinhua

The biggest difference in appearance between Type 87 and FMJ05 is the headband. Type 87 is a webbing similar to an elastic band, with the middle part made of cloth.

The headband of the FMJ05 gas mask is made of overall rubber material. Please note that the texture of the top two straps is different from the other four straps.

The instructions are also slightly different. The later FMJ05 instructions deleted the words "Type 87"

The air resistance parameters in the technical specifications have been changed

FMJ05 from Bang Gu Protective

This version of MF-11, also known as FMJ05 or simply J05 is targetted for civilian and industrial use.

How it is usually advertised

Most oftenly, it would come in a box with a simple writing of "gas mask" only on the box.

Tangshan Puda produces MF-11/FMJ05 masks under the name MJ-4003. This version primarily is targetted for civilian and industrial use.

Drinking system

Some other variants have a drinking tube system on the side of the right cheek. The drinking system is similar to the MF15B. Its hydration straw directly connect to the bottle and the hydration cap of the mask. Although the principle of the hydration cap on the mask is similar to the Israeli ones, their threads do not match, meaning that the drinking system of this mask and the Israeli ones are incompatible with each other.

Hood

Not much is known about its hood other than the fact that it was issued only for special units of the Chinese PLA.
