The Wz.38 was produced by the Antigas equipment plant in Radom leading up to the second world war.

Overview[]

The facepiece is essentially an updated version of the previous D2 and Wz.32 designs. It improved upon these designs by incorporating a fully rubberized facepiece, large eyepieces on a more protruding 'snout' so could be used in conjunction with binoculars and artillery optical equipment. The mask utilizes a 5-point elastic and spring head harness similar to those seen on earlier masks. The mask was occasionally issued with a rubber hose and were stored in bags while in this configuration but were stored in tins when in the 'short' configuration with the filter attached directly to the mask.

The masks were standard issue to polish military units in the opening stages of the second world war and were especially popular with cavalry and artillery regiments due to their greater field of view than the older Wz.32 masks. Poland were eventually invaded and production of the masks ceased on September 1st 1939 with production amounting to over 20,000 , however the Wz.38 was never able to fully replace the Wz.32 and some units laying around after Poland was eventually liberated from Nazi rule were occasionally reissued as training masks and reserved for industrial use.
